DEJ #2 Web 2.0

"Moreover, the visual learners like to organize their place, especially the place where they usually study and learn."
Reflection:
This quote in the article really caught my attention because I also tidy up my study place before I study. I can't concentrate on my work if there is alot of mess around. This also stuck out to me because our learning test suggested I was more of a kinesthetic learner. Although I confess to being this type of person, when you think about it, it's really weird to be so wrapped up about the place where you study. This really makes it clear to me that people not only learn in different ways but also study. Everything about learning isn't set in stone to be the same for every person.

The type of learner I am

If you couldn't tell, I am a Kinesthetic Learner! I learn by doing, which is why I emphasised my hands in my drawing.
I think my second highest was reading/writing followed by audio, but that's wrong. I would much rather learn through watching and demonstrating than listening to something. As a kinesthetic learner, I am in need of more hands on projects or lessons to help me fully understand what is being taught. As an example, in my Elementary Art class, we are learning to make clay. Instead of just giving us the directions to stow away for a time that we would need them, my professor is making clay with us and showing us how to model with it so that we may know in our future classrooms what works and what doesn't.
3 Examples of how technology can help me learn are if I were learning a dissection, a good practice run would be to use a smart board. I don't know the website off hand, but I had a teacher who showed us all the capabilities of the smart board and in so, she showed us the dissection app to use the right tools, and label the insides correctly as practice. (3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning A)
A second would be using Skype or other video chat to set up a "pen pal" in a foreign country to help students learning that language more relevant and personal. (3.  Model Digital-Age Work and Learning B)
A last example of how technology could help me learn is by finding out a new research that is going on and follow by making our own research on a smaller scale! (5. . Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership C)

DEJ #1 Education needs a digital-age upgrade

"Individual workers needed to willingly perform discrete operations as opposed to whole jobs."
Reflection:
While I do agree that technology is important in today's world with all the advances and marvels around us, this quote scares me. For those of us who are considered "Middle Class" or "the Working Class", this quote is not something we look at with optimism. The economy today makes it very tough for an individual to find a job that may be kept for longer than a few months. According to this quote, jobs in the future will be even harder to hold on too. Although I may be reading this sentence as something it isn't, to me this means that an individual will have to settle for work that is promised today with no hope of returning to the same job tomorrow. To be honest, technology scares me as a whole. I do understand the good that technology offers and how desperately the world today needs the technological advances, but at the same time, I can also see the bad that technolody can offer us too. I do agree that education needs to change and to be moderized with how the world works so that we don't hinder our students. This quote, to me, just makes me feel that all the jobs we consider important, will soon be done by technology and such to the point that we have to hope it fails so we can have some work to fix it.

Get to know me!

My name is Alyssa Swiger, but I like to go by Allie! I grow up in the most northern county of West Virginia (Hancock). It is about 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh. I have a twin sister who unfortunately goes to Marshall University 3 hours away from FSU. :( I have a passion for helping others which is what drove me to choose education. Right now, I'm in the pre-elementary education program, but I just passed my PPST so I should be in the program before the end of the semester. I want to go on to get my masters in Special Education and get certifications in autisim as well as the hearing impaired.
